I know there are already threads on this, but they didn't help. Here goes...
Just got a new 2x4 2950 for an ESX 3.0.1 installation. In the past we've used PCI-X Pro/1000 cards; this is our first PCIe PT.
Put all the hardware together. Confirmed all the Dell firmware is latest. Updated the firmware on the two QLE2460 HBAs. Installed ESX 3.0.1 with defaults. Then patched it all the way including the patch 1006511 specifically for this NIC. However, the NIC does not show up in VI Client. Okay, so:
esxcfg-nics[/b] only shows the internal Broadcom
esxupdate -l query[/b] confirms the following patches installed:
ESX-2066306
ESX-2158032
ESX-9986131
ESX-1006511
ESX-1410076

I've tried forcing a redetection. I've tried removing the NIC, rebooting, reseating it, rebooting. Nope.
I've tried force-reinstalling the patches again one at a time, since the first time I'd chained them with a no-reboot (which has never been a problem). Nada.
I've tried switching slots with one of the HBAs. Nyet.
Dell Ethernet Controller Driver Vista
I'm really at a loss. The patch is supposed to make this card work; it's even on the HCL. Any ideas?
