A classic Chicken Invaders title that features a few Easter-related elements into the story

From time to time, a video game comes out that brings an entirely new idea to the table, which is then used in most of the titles that follow it. This was the case with space invaders as well, which featured a revolutionary gameplay that was mimicked and copied in a variety of spin-offs and remakes over the course of the years.

Fight off the devastating chicken invasion

Chicken Invaders by far the most well-known series that uses the same mechanics, only with clumsy chickens instead of alien space ships. In this Revenge of the Yolk Easter Edition, you have to defend the world against much more than chickens, though, since the Easter Bunny is also putting considerable effort into destroying your ship and ending the universe.

The gameplay mechanics should require no introduction, since they are mostly the same as in the original title, with your ship at the bottom and rows upon rows of chickens at the top, shooting eggs at you. Obviously, beside these organized attacks, there are also a few other challenges as well, in which you are assaulted by a carefully orchestrated formation of chicken flying around you. In addition, there is also the matter of the boss levels, which pit you against more powerful enemies with a lot of hitpoints.

Pick-up new weapons and various other power-ups

Since the weapons you receive in the beginning are nowhere nearly as strong as you need them to be in order to survive the later stages of the game, you can pick-up a variety of new guns by collecting power-ups dropped by the evaporated chickens. Thus, you are able to take on much stronger opponents, such as giant bunnies or deadly UFOs.

From a technical point of view, the game is as colorful as it needs to be to attract attention and make you smile with every occasion. The animations are very improved and a new soundtrack has been composed, which, although may not be very long, is very pleasant and relaxing. When it comes to the controls, they are very responsive and intuitive, although you do need a bit of practice before you are able to successfully avoid flying into the chickens.

The same amount of fun as in the previous episodes

Regardless of the chosen theme or the background story involved, Chicken Invaders is always a good choice, entertainment wise. This Revenge of the Yolk Easter Edition may feature a few extra bunnies and colored eggs, but it still uses the same winning formula as it always did, making it an extremely fun game to play.
